Bronx, NY (October 14) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over Lehman College in a non-conference matchup this afternoon in the APEX Main Gymnasium. The victory gave the Devils their 12th win of the season as they defeated the Lightning 25-6, 25-12, 25-8.
Offensively, FDU was led by
Sophia Miskulin (New Providence, NJ) and
Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ), who both tallied five kills, while
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) registered five service aces. Defensively,
Alexis Tamburello (Toms River, NJ) notched nine digs, while
Ellyn Pope (Collingswood, NJ) registered two blocks on the day.
The Devils jumped out to a 15-2 lead and went on to win the opening set 25-6 after back-to-back ace by Fruscione. In the second, FDU scored eight straight points after surrendering the first point of the set. Four of the eight points in the run came from aces by
Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ). A kill by
Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) and an error by the hosts gave FDU a 2-0 lead in the match as the Devils took set two 25-12.
Two long runs in the third set secured the three set sweep for the Devils. FDU jumped out in front 11-1 and then up 13-4, ripped off nine straight points for the 22-4 lead. Two straight errors by Lehman gave FDU a 25-8 third set win and the sweep.
Seven of FDU's 12 wins this year have come in straight sets.
FDU will play its final non-conference regular season game next Thursday, October 21 at 7:00 at William Paterson University.
