Wayne, NJ (October 21) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team wrapped up its regular season non-conference schedule tonight at William Paterson University and fell in four sets by scores of 27-25, 17-25, 36-34, 25-14. FDU's record dropped to 12-10 overall on the season after tonight's contest.
FDU was once again led by sophomore
Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ), who tallied a double double with a career-high 19 kills and 20 digs, while graduate student
Jessica Garreffa (Chatham, NJ) registered a season-high 24 digs as the libero.
In the opening set, William Paterson led 23-20 before FDU scored four straight for a chance at set point. Both teams traded points before the hosts scored three straight on two kills and an ace for a 27-25 set one win.
Tied at 8-8 in the second, FDU ripped off an 11-3 run for the 19-11 advantage and never looked back as the Devils tied the match up at 1-1 with a 25-17 set two win. The third set was tied on 14 different occasions with the final time coming at 34-34. William Paterson received a kill and an ace to win the third 36-34.
William Paterson took control of the fourth set from the start with an early 6-2 edge and then up 8-6 went on a 7-1 run to create the separation it would need to win the third 25-14 and the match 3-1.
The hosts held advantages in kills (58-42), aces (10-4), assists (56-36) and digs (122-103), while FDU held a 7-3 edge in blocks.
FDU will round out its 2021 regular season next week with two midweek Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contests. The Devils will host Misericordia on Tuesday, October 26 and travel to Stevens on Thursday, October 28.
