Football Rallies To Defeat Albright, 42-35

Reading, Pa. (October 30) – Trailing 28-27 with 4:45 to play in the third quarter, FDU-Florham football scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to defeat Albright College, 42-35, in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) contest at Shirk Stadium this afternoon.

The win pushed FDU's record to 5-3 overall and to 4-2 in the MAC. The Devils registered their fifth win in a single season for the first time since 2018 and for just the second time since 1999. The program record for wins in a season stands at eight which was set by the 1993 squad which went 8-3.

FDU jumped out to an early lead in the first with a pair of touchdowns. Anthony Caserta (Bronx, NU) found Connor Perez (Warwick, NY) for a 25-yard touchdown on the first drive of the game and Nicolas Santavicca (Yorktown Heights, NY) rushed for three yards into the end zone giving the Devils a 13-0 lead after 15 minutes of play.

Both teams scored two touchdowns in the second as the score stood at 27-14 at halftime in favor of the Devils. Ryon Thomas (Mattapoisset, Mass.) rushed for a three yard touchdown and Adrian Reese II (Indianapolis, Ind.) caught a six yard touchdown pass from Caserta before the halftime horn sounded.

Albright took advantage of an FDU turnover early in the third and cut its deficit to six after Caserta was intercepted by Sam Viera at the 40 yard line. The Lions turned that into seven points and after a they were given a short field to work with following a just a 15 yard punt, scored a second touchdown for the 28-27 lead.

FDU drove 80 yards in eight plays on its first possession of the fourth quarter and retook the lead 35-28 following a 14 yard touchdown pass from Caserta to Perez. A two point conversion on a pass by Rory Sullivan (Hazlet, NJ), pushed FDU's lead to seven. The hosts answered with a 70 yard drive of their own knotting the score up at 35-35 with 8:52 to play in regulation.

Reese scored what proved to be the game winning touchdown on the very next drive as he caught a 22 yard pass from Caserta. Chris DiMedio (Cornwall, NY) split the uprights for the 42-35 edge. The Devils left 5:09 on the clock but on just the second play of Albright's drive, Anthony Cuzzocrea (Staten Island, NY)intercepted a pass from Todd Shelly. The Devils took over with 4:54 to play and ran the rest of the clock out for the 42-35 victory.

Matthew Gambert (Pearl River, NY) led FDU's defense with eight total tackles, while Kenny Hands (Runnemede, NJ) added five tackles (two for a loss) and his MAC leading tenth sack of the season.
