Fourth Quarter Rally Comes Up Short For Football At King's, 23-20

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (October 23) – A fourth quarter rally by the FDU-Florham football team came up just short as the Devils were edged today by King's College (Pa.), 23-20, in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) matchup at McCarthy Stadium. The loss pushed FDU's record to 4-3 overall and to 3-2 in the MAC, while King's improved to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in league games.

King's scored the first 23 points of the game and held a 17-0 lead at halftime. This is the second straight week that FDU has been held without points until the fourth quarter. On their first drive of the game, the hosts drove 41 yards on 11 plays and came away with three points as Kyle Prescavage converted on a 36-yard field goal attempt.

The Monarchs scored a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter. The first came on a 70 yard pass to Joe Herman early in the stanza and the second came on a 10 yard pass to Gabe Boccella late in the quarter.

FDU, which trailed 17-0 at the break, opened the third quarter with a drive that lasted 6:53 and spanned 53 yards but back to back incomplete passes on third and fourth downs held the Devils without points on the drive. Neither team was able to score in the third quarter.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, Anthony Caserta's (Bronx, NY) second down pass was intercepted by Teone Sherrod and returned into FDU territory. King's took over possession and on the first play of the drive, Brennan Robinson rushed 39 yards into the end zone. Following a missed extra point, King's held a 23-0 lead.

Nicolas Santavicca (Yorktown Heights, NY) scored FDU's first points of the game with 7:45 to play in regulation as he ran for a 29 yard touchdown on a first and ten play. The Devils missed the extra point but were able to cut their deficit to 23-6.

On the very next drive with King's on the FDU 13 yard line, Isaiah Massey (New Rochelle, NY) forced a fumble and returned it 87 yards into the endzone for a touchdown. Following a successful extra point attempt, FDU trailed by just ten, 23-13, with 2:32 to play.

FDU lined up for an onside kick and was successful as the Devils took back possession of the ball with under three minutes remaining in regulation. In just over a minute, FDU drove down the field and Caserta found Connor Perez (Warwick, NY) for a 21 yard touchdown pass to pull FDU within three, 23-20.

The Devils once again lined up for an onside kick, but Christian Korchma's (Brooklyn, NY) kick went out of bounds. King's was able to run out the clock and hold on for the 23-20 win.

Caserta completed 18 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns, while Perez caught six passes for 130 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Joseph Randazzo (Staten Island, NY) led the way with a total of 15 tackles, while Massey and Tyrell Pereira (North Brunswick, NJ) both forced fumbles this afternoon. Kenny Hands (Runnemede, NJ) once again had a stellar day on defense with six tackles (2.5 for a loss) and two sacks.

FDU will play its final regular season road game next Saturday, October 30 at Albright College. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 pm in Reading, Pa.
