Field Hockey Clinches Postseason Berth With 3-0 Win Over Arcadia

Madison, NJ (October 20) – With a 3-0 win over Arcadia University tonight, the FDU-Florham field hockey team clinched a spot in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) postseason tournament. The Devils have two games remaining on their schedule before final seeding is determined, but FDU will be one of four teams from the MAC Freedom playing in November.

Records: FDU (9-6, 4-1), Arcadia (6-10, 3-2)
Location: Robert T. Shields Field
FDU Goal Scorers: Emile Vizzuso (6), Ashley Moskal (7), Haleigh Flukey (11)

After a scoreless first quarter, Emilee Vizzuso (Montville, NJ) scored the game's opening goal and her sixth of the season giving FDU a 1-0 edge. Sydney Moskal (Washington, NJ) took the ball off the penalty corner and passed it to Vizzuso, who finished her shot into the right corner of the cage.

FDU doubled its advantage just 1:31 into the third quarter as Moskal fed the ball to sister Ashley Moskal (Washington, NJ), who tallied her seventh goal of the year following another penalty corner from Haleigh Flukey (Ocean City, NJ).

Arcadia had its best scoring chance of the night two and half minutes after FDU's second goal as the officials called for a penalty stroke. Regan Sammons came off the bench to take the stroke but FDU keeper Megan March (Glen Burnie, Md.) dove to her right and saved the attempt and preserved the shutout.

Before the third quarter was over, Vizzuso tapped the ball to Flukey in front of the cage and buried her shot giving FDU a 3-0 lead. Flukey's goal was her team leading 11th of the season.

Neither team scored over the final 15 minutes as the Devils came away with the 3-0 win securing a spot in the postseason.

FDU will travel to Delaware Valley University for a MAC Freedom matchup on Saturday, October 23 at 1:00 pm.
