Gwynedd Valley, Pa. (October 2) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team defeated Penn State Abington and host Gwynedd Mercy University in a tri match this afternoon on the road. FDU topped Penn State Abington in five sets (25-17, 22-25, 25-15, 23-25, 15-11) before sweeping Gwynedd Mercy (25-21, 25-22, 25-15).
 
With the pair of non-conference wins, the Devils improved to 9-7 overall on the season.
 
Vs. Penn State Abington:
 
The Devils used a balanced attack as three student-athletes posted double-digit kills led by Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ), who tallied a double double with 16 kills and 30 digs. Abigail Rock (Stewartsville, NJ) registered 13 kills, while Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) notched 11 kills.
 
On top of DeFuria's 30 digs, Kacie Ros (Bridgewater, NJ) registered 23 digs to go along with 27 assists, Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) tallied 20 digs and Jessica Garreffa (Chatham, NJ) posted 17 digs. 

As a team, FDU hit .121 and posted 16 aces to go along with 15 blocks and 109 digs in the five set match against Penn State Abington.
 
Vs. Gwynedd Mercy:
 
DeFuria notched her second double double of the day with ten kills and 11 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Gwynedd Mercy. Four student-athletes also tallied double digit digs in the nightcap led by Garreffa with 22. Garreffa was followed by Fruscione (12), DeFuria (11) and Ros (10). 
 
As a team, FDU hit .124 and posted nine aces to go along with 34 kills, 13 blocks and 71 digs. 

Leading 23-15 late in the third and final set of the day, a kill by Alexis Tamburello (Tom River, NJ) paired with an error secured the sweep for the Devils. In set one, set point came on a swing by DeFuria and in set two, set point came on a kill by Fruscione.
 
FDU will next travel to Montclair State on Wednesday, October 6 at 7:00 pm for a non-conference matchup.
