Madison, NJ (October 16) – The No. 7 AFCA/No. 9 D3Football.com Delaware Valley University football team scored 61 straight points en route to a 61-7 win at FDU-Florham in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) matchup on Robert T. Shield Field.
FDU suffered its first conference loss of the season as the Devils dropped to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the MAC, while the visiting nationally-ranked Aggies improved to 6-0 on the season and to 4-0 in league play.
Delaware Valley scored two touchdowns in each of the first three quarters as the Aggies led 28-0 at the break and 41-0 after 45 minutes of action. Donte Simmons scored three of the first six touchdowns for the visitors – twice on 1-yard rushes and one on a 43-yard breakaway run.
In the fourth, Delaware Valley scored touchdowns on each of its first three drives as Julian White ran for a 44-yard touchdown, Justin Harris returned the ball 48-yards off an interception and Devon Speid recorded a 2-yard touchdown run making the score 61-0. After White's touchdown, the extra point was blocked by
Marquez Haywood (Lindenwold, NJ).
FDU nearly scored its first points of the game with 4:27 remaining in the third quarter, but a fumble in the end zone negated the drive. On 4th and 25 from the 48-yard line,
Ryon Thomas (Mattapoisett, Mass.) lined up for a punt, faked it and ran all the way to the goal line but Ahmad Moore forced the fumble in the end zone turning the ball back over to Delaware Valley.
With 2:27 left in regulation and the score at 61-0,
TJ Brown (Staten Island, NY) took over at quarterback. On the first play of the drive, Brown passed the ball to
Aidan Clowry (Pawling, NY), who ran 58 yards for the touchdown, but three kneel downs by Delaware Valley on the ensuing drive ended the game.
Defensively, the Devils were led by
Joseph Randazzo (Staten Island, NY), who had seven tackles, and
Kenny Hands (Runnemede, NJ), who posted six tackles, 2.5 for a loss and 1.5 sacks on the day.
As a team, Delaware Valley out gained FDU in yards 520-138, which included a 357-30 advantage in yards on the ground.
FDU will play its next two games on the road before returning to Robert T. Shields Field. Next week, FDU (4-2, 3-1 MAC) head to King's College (Pa.) (3-3, 2-3 MAC) for another MAC matchup. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 23.
