HILTON HEAD, SC (March, 9 2020) - The FDU men's tennis team kick started their 2020 Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina on Monday morning with a 7-2 victory over Webster University. With the victory, the Devils improve their record to 3-1, as the Gorlocks drop to 4-3.
The Devils opened up the match with three doubles victories, as the tandems of senior
Rich Bennett, and freshman
Jacob Mostoller; freshman
Jonathan Carasso and
Zach Puccia; seniors
Kevin Weller and
Chris Fiorenza bested those of Webster.
Up 3-0 heading into singles play, Puccia picked up a two set to zero victory over the opposing Webster player. Weller, freshman
Kaya Esgun, and Murray all followed with 2-0 sweeps as well.
INSIDE THE BOX
Bennett and Mostoller gave the Devils it's first victory on the day, as they picked up a 8-5 doubles win over Riley Muren and Austin Nation of Webster. The freshman duo of Carasso and Puccia put the Devils in the win column next, as they defeated Justin Weaver and Tanner Haugen by a score of 8-4. Weller and Fiorenza rounded out the Devil's doubles compeition, as they bested Harsh Jawal and Justin Koehler, 8-2.
Puccia gave the Devils its first singles win as he defeated Justin Weaver by scores of 6-2, and 6-4. Weller continued the FDU hot streak with a 8-7 (7-5). Esgun was up next for FDU, as he defeated Jawal by scores of 6-3 and 6-0. Murray closed up the morning of matches as he defeated Justin Koehler, 6-1 and 6-1.

Coming off of studying the Fall 2019 semester abroad, Weller came back strong in this mornings matchup.

"The guys came out on fire winning all three doubles matches which set the tone for the rest of the match. Webster has some very talented players that really pushed us in singles. It was a great start to our trip and hopefully we can keep it going later today."
