MADISON, NJ- Student-Athletes from the FDU Devils Athletic Department participated in Read Across America on Wednesday, with members from eight different teams travelling to read to children from local elementary schools.
"Every year this is a great experience for our student athletes," explained SAAC Director,
Richard Palm. "It's always nice to be involved in the community and they have more fun with it than even the elementary school kids."
READ ACROSS AMERICA
Read Across America is an initiative started to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday and promote reading to young children. During Read Across America week, school's take fifteen minutes throughout the day to sit and read. This can be a book, short story, article, magazine or even a blog post, the idea, READ. Each year, members of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, or SAAC, travel to location elementary schools to read and interact with students to help promote the importance of reading. This year, they travelled to the Borough School and Mountain School located in Morris Plains, NJ.Â

"It was a great experience going to the elementary school to meet some amazing kids and get a chance to interact and read with them," said SAAC President and Baseball Captain,
Michael Tufano. "Many kids were very excited to meet college athletes and tell us about all of the sports they play and the trophies they won."

DR. SEUSS
Theodor Seuss Geisel, more commonly known as Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2,1904 in the state of Massachusetts. Seuss was an American artist, book publisher, animator, poet, cartoonist and author. During his life, Dr. Seuss printed over 60 children's brooks, with his first one coming in 1937 called, "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street." Arguably, Seuss's most known and popular books are, "The Cat in the Hat" and "Green Egg's and Ham," but this is up for your interpretation. Dr. Suess passed on September 24, 1991 at the age of 87.
