Men's and Women's Tennis Fall to Drew in Spring Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MADISON, NJ (February 16, 2020)- FDU Women's and Men's Tennis fell to Drew University on Sunday for the first time during the 2019-2020 season. In the doubles matches, both teams lost 3-0, with the women falling 6-3 in singles matches and the men falling 8-1. With the loss, the women's program falls to 6-1 overall while the men's team drops to 2-1.

LEAD LADY DEVIL
Senior Christine Kenny
Kenny found herself down in her singles match 6-3, before making some adjustments to help bring herself back. Kenny won three straight points to come back and tie the match at 6-6 headed into a tiebreaker. She went on to win tiebreak 7-3 and the match 8-7.

LEAD DEVIL
Senior Kevin Weller
It was a back and forth battle for much of the match, with neither playing taking control of the match. Weller was able to take control deep into the match to secure an 8-6 victory for the Devils. His pattern play was exceptional and he was able to work points the way he wanted.

MATCH NOTES
The women's team rattled off three straight singles victories, after being down 4-0 through three doubles matches and one singles match. Along with Kenny, freshman Kayla Dello Iacono defeated her opponent 8-5 and junior Kira Bradley won her match 8-3.

COACHES SUMMARY
"I was happy with out effort in singles.  All of the scores across the board were close, but it was a little too late.  Doubles hurt us for both teams.  We came out tight and couldn't really shake off the jitters.  I preach an attacking style, and we just didn't hit the gas today.  Effort has been outstanding in practice so hopefully this was all about nerves.  It's good to get a match under our belt and we look forward to playing some tough competition in South Carolina in a few weeks." - Head Coach Tom Battaglia

UP NEXT
Both teams travel to Myrtle Beach, SC for a March 9-13 spring break trip with both teams opening up on Monday, March 9. The Women's program will take on Cornell College while the men take on Baldwin Wallace University.
