Men's Soccer Falls in Overtime to Farmingdale State

MADISON, N.J. (September 7, 2019) – The FDU men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime contest to Farmingdale State College on Saturday.

With the loss, the Devils move to 1-1-1 on the 2019 season, and FSC improves to 1-2.

In a highly contested game from the opening kick, the Devils defense shined as they were able to prevent all of Farmingdale States attempts to score in the first half. Sophomore goaltender Tiernan Grey was pressed into action as he saved the first five scoring chances by the Rams. During the half, the Devils penetrated through the Rams defense several times resulting in quality shot attempts. The teams first three shot attempts came off the foot of sophomore Billy Farnan. The sophomore was active from the get-go as he fired off a shot in the first minute of the contest. Farnan got off two more attempts later as he saw his shot blocked at 17:25 in the half, and had another shot go wide at 18:27. The Devils remained lively on the offensive end in the half as sophomore Salvatore Vassallo, graduate student Anthony Pares and sophomore Jack Zaretsky all registered shot attempts, with junior Davide Sousa getting the Devils first shot-on-goal of the game.

Heading into the second half at 0-0, the game remained a back-and-forth affair. Junior Caleb Aryiku recorded started off the half for the Devils with an early shot attempt. Grey continued to be a defensive force for the Devils as he saved another Rams attempt at 49:49 to keep the game scoreless. Junior Brandon McGregor would come through for FDU at 62:18 as he broke through the defense for the score and the Devils first lead of the game. The Devils effort to keep the lead was successful until the Rams capitalized at 83:10 to tie the game at 1-1. With just under seven to play in regulation, both teams failed to get any offense going as the game headed into overtime.

In the extra frame, the Devils got off one shot attempted and stopped two Rams attempts until a corner kick by Farmingdale State led to a goal which gave them the 2-1 win.
