CHESTER, Pa. (September 21, 2019) - The FDU football team fell to Widener University on Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference action, 48-10.
The Devils drop to 1-2 on the season and are 0-1 in the MAC while Widener moves to 2-1, 1-0 in the conference.
On their second possession of the day, the Pride picked up their first six points of the game, as they scored off of an interception. After FDU failed to score on the ensuing drive, the Pride got the ball back and would execute, to take the 10-0 lead. The Pride controlled the first quarter, scoring an additional three points to jump in front 13-0 after one.
FDU began the second quarter with their first scoring drive of the game. The possession started with a 10-yard catch by junior Rory Sullivan. Facing fourth down, the Devils opted to go for the first down. The decision paid off, as Caserta connected to Sullivan for a 12-yard gain. On the ensuing drive, sophomore Justin Malak rushed for 13-yards to push the Devils deep into Pride territory. After being unable to connect for a touchdown, senior Nick Maciejewski was successful on the field goal attempt, to put the Devils on the board at 13-3.
The Pride followed with three scores on their next four possessions to construct a 34-3 edge entering halftime. The hosts kept the momentum through the half, opening the third quarter with a seven-play, 74-yard drive to further extend the gap.
Down 41-3, FDU started a drive that would put them into Widener territory. The drive started with a five-yard Blackman run. Following a few penalties on the Pride, Caserta completed back-to-back passes to extend the possession. First, Caserta found junior Tyler Adams for a seven-yard pickup. Caserta then found sophomore Harrison Parrelli for a 25-yard connection. The Devils would fail to execute on the drive, as the ball went back to the Pride on downs.
Now in the fourth quarter, the Devils would score their first touchdown of the contest, on an 89-yard drive. The drive included back-to-back completions from Caserta to senior Benjamin Calderon. Following a 15-yard pass from Caserta to Malak, the Devils now sat at their own 37 yard-line. FDU then used consecutive runs by Parrelli, to move them to their own 47. Nearing Pride territory, Caserta handed the ball off to Malak, who exploded for a 53-yard touchdown. The Malak run was the Devils last possession of the contest, as the Pride ran out the rest of the clock to close out the game.

- Malak ran for a career-best 87 yards and scored his first touchdown in a Devils uniform.
- Junior Christian Riedinger led all FDU players in tackles, with five.
- Sophomore Jake Swindasz recorded four tackles, all of which were solo tackles.
- Blackman ran for a total of 118 yards.
- The Devils recorded 229 yards on the ground, while the Pride collected 169.
- 10 different receivers caught passes for the Devils.
- Sophomore Anthony Rajoppi recorded the Devils lone sack of the game.
