Football Topped by Stevenson

MADISON, N.J. (September 28, 2019) - The FDU football team fell in Middle Atlantic Conference action on Saturday to Stevenson by a score of 49-15.

The Devils move to 1-3 on the season and are 0-2 in the MAC, as Stevenson improves to 2-2, 1-1 in the MAC.

The Mustangs won the coin toss but elected to defer, which put the ball in the hands of the Devils to start the game. With junior quarterback Anthony Caserta under snap, the Devils wasted little time to get their first six of the game. Caserta began the game with a 30-yard connection to senior Khrystan Camillo to move FDU into Mustang's territory, at the visitor's 35-yard line. On the next play, Caserta handed the ball off to junior Alnazir Blackman who exploded past the Mustangs defense for a 35-yard touchdown run. The Blackman run wrapped up a 65-yard drive. Senior Nick Maciejewski's extra point attempt was good, to put the Devils in control of the game, 7-0.

The Mustangs, however, quickly evened the game at seven apiece, as they executed on three plays for a 72-yard drive. After a quick FDU possession, Stevenson got the ball back, looking to take the lead. On the sixth play of the drive, and deep into FDU territory, junior Tyre Williams came up with a huge interception, in which he returned for 46-yards.

Back in the Mustangs hands, a bad snap led to a safety, to put the Devils up 9-7. Stevenson would, however, take advantage of their next possession, as they scored to take the 14-9 lead, into the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, Stevenson added to their lead, to take the 21-9 lead. Following a failed attempt to score, the Mustangs got the ball back once again. With the ball back and momentum on their side, the Mustangs aim to add to their score was quickly derailed by the Devils defense. Senior Shyheim Outland used a powerful hit to force a fumble out of the Mustangs grasp, and on to the turf. Freshman Jafar Sannie came up with the fumble recovery, as the Devils found their way into Stevenson territory.

In the first play of their drive, Caserta found freshman Jevaughn Thomas II for the 20-yard touchdown conversion. Despite the blocked extra point attempt by the Mustangs, the Devils successfully cut into the Stevenson lead and trailed 21-15. Stevenson would respond, as they took a 28-15 lead into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, the Devils held the potent Stevenson offense to one score. The Devils quarter was highlighted by a fourth-down stop, on the Stevenson fourth and one attempt in Devil's territory. The Stevenson attempt to get the first down was denied, as freshman Frederick Cingerana and sophomore Anthony Rajoppi came up with the big stop for the Devils. Heading into the fourth quarter, Stevenson used two scores to add to their lead and secure the win, 49-15.
