MADISON, N.J. (September 18, 2019) – The FDU volleyball team fell to King's College 25-19, 25-14, 25-18 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom opener Wednesday.
FDU falls to 4-5, 0-1 in the conference as King's moves to 10-1, 1-0 in the MAC Freedom.
The Devils raced out to a 3-0 lead and held the edge for a majority of the frame. As the Monarchs closed to within one at 9-8, rookie Ana Texeira served up three straight points to stretch the lead back to five. During the rally, junior
Liz Moise recorded consecutive solo rejections. The visitors battled back and leveled the frame at 16, 17, and 18 before taking the lead for good with a 3-0 run. King's closed the period out with the final five points.
FDU used three straight markers from sophomore
Kacie Ros to build a 9-6 edge in the second stanza. The lead was short-lived, as King's recorded nine consecutive points to take a 15-9 lead. The Devils were able to get as close as eight courtesy of a block error, but King's ended the set with the last three points to grab a 2-0 lead.
King's pulled ahead 5-1 early in the final frame, but the hosts were able to get back within two after an unforced attack error. FDU got back to within one after Moise powered home a kill to make the score 11-10. It would be as close the Devils would get, as King's embarked on a set-changing 5-0 spurt to pull in front for good. Despite trailing, the Devils continued to fight back, as kills from Garreffa and senior
Nathalia Padron brought the score to 17-15. The Monarchs finished the match with four consecutive points, capped off with an unforced attack error.
