Flukey's Career Night Sends Field Hockey Past Drew 6-0

Sophomore Tied the School-Record with Four Goals

MADISON, N.J. (September 18, 2019) – Sophomore Haleigh Flukey matched the school-record with four goals as the FDU field hockey team downed Drew University 6-0 in the Battle of Madison Ave. Wednesday.

The Devils improve to 5-2 on the season and Drew drops to 2-5.

The Devils got off the first two shot attempts of the contest, as seniors Jessica Pietracatella and Maggie Sohns fired off shots in the fourth minute. Junior Allison Attardi attacked the opposing defense for a shot-on-goal in the 10th minute. The Devils continued to penetrate, as Sohns got off a shot-on-goal in the 11th minute.

As the quarter began to wind down, the Devils got off eight total shots in the quarter. In the second period, the Devils wasted little time to get on the board. On a scramble near the goal, a pass from Sohns deflected off the stick of junior Riley Mullan to give FDU the 1-0 lead.

With the momentum on their side, the Devils executed for another score less than two minutes later, when Flukey benefited off the pass from sophomore Kendall Moore for the score. Up 2-0, a corner attempt from Mullan went to Pietracatella who flipped the ball to Flukey for the goal. The Devils lead remained, as they took the 3-0 advantage into the halftime break.

Entering the third quarter, the Devils aimed to extend their lead, as they fired off three shot attempts in the first two minutes of action. After coming up short on a few tries, Flukey's shot got past the Drew goalie, as this time Attardi was credited with the assist. The Devils began the final frame up 4-0 and looking for a solid performance to guide them to the victory.

The Flukey-Attardi connection proved to be an effective one, as Attardi found Flukey once again to help the Devils add to their lead. Up 5-0, FDU had one more goal in them. This time, Sohns tallied the goal as she connected off a pass from sophomore Sydney Moskal. Up 6-0, the Devils held on to pick up the victory.
