MADISON, N.J. (September 16, 2019) - The FDU women's tennis team picked up a win in their season-opener, topping Western Connecticut 7-2 Monday.
The Devils took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. After junior
Nicole DelRosso and senior
Mia Capozzoli were topped 8-2 at the top of the doubles lineup, the second and third flights picked them up with identical 8-1 triumph. At No. 2 doubles, it was junior
Kira Bradley and senior
Christine Kenny who picked up the victory. With the match tied at one, senior
Logan Squires and rookie
Kayla Dello Iacono picked up the pivotal second doubles point with their 8-1 win.
FDU added to their lead as Dello Iacono notched her first career singles victory with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at the No. 3 flight. The Devils kept the momentum going, as sophomore
Erin Weller picked up a win at the No. 5 flight. The sophomore recorded a 6-2, 6-0 triumph.
FDU clinched the victory with at the top of the lineup, with DelRosso winning 7-6 (7-5), 7-5. The Devils kept the winning going, at No. 6 singles. Junior
Brooke Dorsey dropped just one game and cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory. The Colonials battled back with victory at the No. 2 flight, with Kenny falling 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. Capozzoli capped off the win with a thriller. She won the first set 7-5 before battling back from a 6-5 deficit to win 7-6 (7-4) in the second frame.
UP NEXT
The Devils return to the courts on Saturday for their first road match of the season. The teams heads to Pennsylvania to battle Cedar Crest College, with the first serve at 11 a.m.
