MADISON, N.J. (September 11, 2019) – The FDU volleyball team fell 25-15, 25-22, 25-17 to visiting Manhattanville College on Wednesday evening.
The Devils drop to 2-3 on the season, as the Valiants improve to 3-4.
Manhattanville notched four of the first six points of the opening frame before a kill from senior
Nathalia Padron made the score 4-3. The Valiants would reel off nine consecutive tallies to break the set wide open. The lead hovered around 11 before the Devils used a 4-0 spurt to get back to a single-digit difference. During the rally, the Valiants committed a pair of unforced errors, with sophomore
Kacie Ros serving up an ace. Padron recorded a kill to get within seven at 22-15, but the visitors tallied the final three points to take a 1-0 lead.
A back-and-forth second stanza saw the Devils jump out to a lead. With rookie
Sophia Miskulin on the service line, she scored four straight points to give FDU a 9-6 advantage. After a double-team block by junior
Liz Moise and sophomore
Ashley Dellolio made the score 12-10, the Valiants rolled off six straight markers to take the lead for good. The Devils got within a pair five times late in the frame, but a service error gave the visitors a 2-0 advantage heading into the final set.
Junior
Jessica Garreffa pinned down a Ros set to make the third set score 8-7; however, the Valiants recorded four straight markers to go in front by five. A Miskulin kill trimmed the gap to five at 16-11, but Manhattanville turned the tide with four of the next six tallies. The Devils were able to fend off a pair of match points courtesy of unforced errors, yet the Valiants capitalized on a service error to claim the match.
