NEWBURGH, N.Y. (September 10, 2019) – The FDU volleyball team dropped a 25-23, 25-17, 27-25 decision to Mount Saint Mary's College on Tuesday evening.
With the setback, the Devils move to 2-2 on the season.
Beginning the set trailing by a score of 13-7, the Devils surged to a 15-7 run to take the 22-20 advantage. With the period leveled at 20 all, kills from junior Rebecca Morse and senior Nathalia Padron from sophomore Kacie Ros gave the Devils the late set lead. The Devils performance in the set was spearheaded by kills from Padron, Miskulin, junior Liz Moise, Ros, and Morse. The Knights battled back and registered the final three points of the stanza to grab a 1-0 edge.
In the second set of the contest, the Devils strong offensive performance could not match that of the Knights. The hosts used a 14-5 spurt early in the frame and went ahead by as much as 11 points before the Devils attempted a rally. Down to set point, FDU scored four straight markers before a kill ended the set in favor of the hosts.
With their backs against the wall in the third set, the Devils refused to go away quietly. Trailing 13-9, back-to-back kills from Garreffa and Padron helped the Devils cut into the deficit. Following a Knights error, Moise would once again deliver for the Devils as she capitalized off a pass from Garreffa. Later in the set, the Devils turned a 20-19 deficit into a 23-20 lead as three kills from Garreffa highlighted the run. FDU got to within set point on a Moise kill, but the Knights battled back and claimed the third and final stanza 27-25.
