Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Belanger, Warg Lead Men's Lacrosse Past Immaculata 12-5

MADISON, N.J. (February 23, 2019) - Senior Michael Warg and junior John Belanger each netted hat-tricks as the FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team notched a 12-5 victory over Immaculata Saturday afternoon in the home-opener.

FDU levels its record to 1-1, while the Mighty Macs drop to 0-1. It was the first matchup between the two schools.

The Devils got on the board first with a man-up goal five minutes into the game. Belanger continued his hot start to the 2019 season when he found the back of the net off the feed from freshman Zane Johnston. The Devils extended their lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals by Warg. Warg's goals came 59 seconds apart during the opening quarter. The first goal was an even-strength goal while the latter goal was a man-up goal. Both sophomore Drew Bukowiec and freshman Zane Johnston each picked up assists the Warg tallies.

The Devils continued to add to their lead in the second with a goal by Bukowiec with 10:42 left in the frame. The Devils took advantage on a two-minute non-releasable penalty by scoring to make it 5-0, as Belanger potted his second of the game. After the Immaculata got on the board, Warg took advantage of a man-up situation for his third goal of the afternoon to complete the hat trick. FDU cruised into the locker room with a 6-1 lead.

Immaculata registered two quick goals in the opening minute of the third quarter to make it a 6-3 game. The Devils responded two minutes later when Belanger netted his third goal of the game with 12:25 left in the third. Johnston showed off his athleticism with a diving goal to give the Devils an 8-3 led midway through the third period, junior Pat Stewart netted his first goal of the 2019 season with 7:16 left in the frame. Stewart's man-up goal came off a nifty feed from Belanger.

The Devils extended the lead to 10-3 after Belanger put away his fourth goal of the afternoon before Warg joined the four-goal party moments later with a goal three minutes later. Freshman Joshua Frio capped off the scoring for FDU with 3:20 left, converting a Belanger feed. The Mighty Macs added one late tally but were unable to get any closer.
