Brooklyn, NY (December 11, 2019)- FDU Women's Basketball fell to Brooklyn College at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY on Wednesday afternoon, 73-56. With the loss, the Devils fall to 2-7 overall while the Bulldogs improve to 5-3. This was the first ever opportunity for Brooklyn College and FDU playing at the Barclays Center.
FIRST HALF
Brooklyn College took control of the game early, going on a 13-0 run to start. FDU had the response on the heals of freshmen
Jayda Bing and
Nevaeh Sutton. The Devils went on a 17-4 run to close out the first quarter, knocking the Bulldog lead to 4 four at 20-17.
The second quarter was a back-and-forth the whole time, with FDU taking their first lead at 23-22. Brooklyn would immediately regain the lead and hold it for the remainder of the half taking a 38-32 lead into the break. Â
SECOND HALF
The Bulldogs started the third quarter on a 7-0 run, extending their lead to 13 at 45-32 with 8:20 remaining. Sophomore
Helen Ishmael ended the run at 8:05 with a two-point basket. The lead would stay the same for the next three minutes with Brooklyn holding a 49-36 advantage with 5:31 remaining in the quarter.
FDU would catch fire thanks to freshmen
Angela Downey knocking down 3 three-pointers during a 10-0 run, making the score 49-46 near the end of the third. The Bulldogs answered with a 10-0 run of their own, ending the third quarter up, 59-46.
The fourth quarter was all Bulldogs as they extended their lead throughout, with the final score 73-56.
LEAD DEVILS
Senior
Jennah Roman led all Devils with 11 points. Ishmael contributed 10 points on 5-of-11 (45%) from the field and grabbed 7 rebounds. Downey also ended the day with 10 points, including shooting 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Bing added 9 points and 6 rebounds while senior
Cayla Staggers added 8.Â
