FDU Falls at Home to Trinity College (CT)

Madison, NJ (December 30, 2019)- Women's Basketball dropped a home non-conference matchup against Trinity College (CT), 80-36. With the loss, the Devils drop to 2-8 on the season while the Bantams improve to 9-1 overall.

Trinity went on an early 6-0 run to start the contest, holding FDU scoreless through four and a half minutes of quarter one. The Devils ended the run with a jumper from freshman Jayda Bing at 5:21. FDU responded with five straight points, bringing the game within one, 6-5 with 3:33 remaining. The Bantams scored the games next five points, to take an 11-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Quarter number two was another set of runs, as Trinity started where they left off, scoring the first six points and taking a 17-5 lead. The Devils would fight back, going on a 10-0 run of their own led by freshman Meadow Garcia and seniors Cayla Staggers and Jennah Roman. The Bantams led 17-15 with 3:48 remaining in the quarter. Trinity had the response, scoring the final seven points of the second quarter to take a 24-15 advantage into the halftime break.

The momentum in the third quarter belonged to Trinity College, outscoring FDU 17-5 and leading the game 41-20 heading into the final frame. FDU fought hard in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 points led by freshman Angela Downey's six points from beyond the arc. The final score, 60-36 in favor of Trinity.

LEAD DEVIL
Staggers filled up the stat sheet for FDU, finishing the day with six points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal.

"We knew going into tonight's game it was going to be tough. Trinity has only one loss and they play tough for a full 40 minutes. We learned from them and are working on small victories to get us ready for conference play." - Head Coach Melissa Brooks

WINNING THE BOARDS
FDU out rebounded the Bantams 46-45 and finished the day with an 18-to-10 advantage on the offensive glass.

The Devils travel to take on Madison, NJ rival Drew University on January 4 with tip-off set for 1:00 PM.
