MADISON, N.J. (October 9, 2019) – The FDU men's soccer team dropped a 5-1 contest to Montclair State on Wednesday evening.
The Devils move to 5-5-1 on the season, as Montclair State jumps to 10-4.
The first half of the game was highly contested defensively. The Devils held MSU to just four shot attempts in the half. Sophomore goalkeeper Tiernan Grey recorded a save in the 24th minute on the Red Hawks attempt to score, but the Red Hawks broke through in the 30th minute to take a 1-0 advantage.
To start the second half, the Devils attempted back-to-back shots-on-goal in the 50th minute. Junior Daniel McMillen and sophomore Salvator Vassallo fired off shots that the MSU goalie stopped. In the 53rd minute, junior goalie Parker Malman corraled in an MSU attempt. In the 55th minute, the Red Hawks fired off another try, but Malman once again recorded the save. The visitors tacked four goals in the second period to construct a 5-0 lead.
The Devils finally broke through in the 78th minute. Sophomore Stefan Zawojski sent in a cross, and McMillen was able to fire a hard shot into the back of the net. In the final seconds, sophomore Dylon Leitzel tallied the save off of the Red Hawks attempt. MSU would hold on to the 5-1 lead, to secure the win.
