MADISON, N.J. (October 4, 2019) – Senior
Maggie Sohns matched the school-record with three assists to lead the FDU field hockey team past Eastern University in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play on Breast Cancer Awareness Night Friday.
FDU improves to 10-2, 2-0 in the MAC Freedom as Eastern slips to 3-8, 0-2 in the conference.

Haleigh Flukey weaved across the end line before crossing a pass to junior
Marissa Colvin. Colvin was in the right place tap in the cross and gave FDU the early 1-0 edge. The Devils nearly added to their lead in the 14th minute, but senior
Jessica Pietracatella had her attempt by the Eastern goalkeeper.
Just 40 seconds later, FDU struck again to double the advantage. Sohns set a pass through the front of the goal, and Flukey redirected it into the cage for her team-leading 19th goal of the season. The Eagles' best chance came in the 29th minute, as they had a chance glance off the post and out-of-bounds, keeping the score at 2-0 entering halftime.
The Devils held a slim 6-4 edge in shots over the first 30 minutes while the Eastern collected four penalty corners to FDU's three.
The lead grew to three in the 37th minute, as Sohns once again made a perfect pass to set up the tally. This time, she found Colvin in front, and the junior converted while falling, pushing the score to 3-0. In the 40th minute, an Eagle defensive save prevented the score from going any higher. The defensive unit of the Devils had a standout third quarter, preventing the Eagles from registering a shot.
Junior
Megan March made consecutive saves in the 53rd minute, as the Eagles were awarded four straight penalty corners. The visitors were unable to capitalize on their chances, and the Devils were awarded one final corner attempt just as time expired. Flukey inserted to Sohns, who fired a shot from just inside the circle. Pietracatella was able to deflect the shot into the goal, capping off the 4-0 win.
