ST. DAVIDS, Pa. (October 30, 2019) - The FDU volleyball team was topped 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-8) by Eastern University on Wednesday night.
The Devils fall to 8-17 overall and 1-6 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom. With the win, the Eagles improve to 17-11 and 6-1 in conference games.
Junior Liz Moise accounted for the Devils' first kill of the game as she registered the point in the early stages of the first set. On their next possession, sophomore Ashley Dellolio capitalized off the set from classmate Kacie Ros for the kill. Trailing 16-9, the sophomore connection paid dividends once more for the Devils, as Ros found Dellolio for the point. Freshman Sophia Miskulin recorded a kill on the very next play for the Devils. On the ensuing play, FDU scored off of a serve from junior Rebecca Morse, to complete the 3-0 run, and cut the Eagles lead to 16-12. The Eastern offense would remain too overpowering, as they held on for the win.
In the second set, the opening rally ended on a kill from junior Jessica Garreffa. The Eagles followed with a run of their own to take control of the game. Moise offered a kill in the latter half of the set, to cut the Eastern lead. EU held on to take the 2-0 match lead. FDU opened the third set with back-to-back kills from Garreffa and Moise. Aiming to close the match, Eastern used a pair of runs to seize control of the frame. Garreffa capped off the Devils scoring with another kill as Eastern continued their offensive surge, as they held on for the match-clinching victory.
