MORRISTOWN, N.J. (October 31, 2019) – The FDU volleyball team fell to the College of Saint Elizabeth 17-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-11, 16-14 Thursday evening.
FDU closes out their season with an 8-18 mark, while the Eagles improve to 10-10.
The Devils constructed a 7-5 edge in the opening stanza before the hosts came back to tie the frame at seven. With junior
Rebecca Morse serving, the Devils reeled off seven straight points, capped off with an ace, to jump ahead 18-11. The Eagles closed to within three, but FDU used six of the final seven markers, finished off with an unforced error, to take the 1-0 set lead.
The Eagles tied the second period at six after two unforced errors, but senior
Nathalia Padron got the Devils back on track with nine straight points to build a commanding 15-6 advantage. An Eagles ace shrunk the lead to four at 20-16, but FDU held off the Eagles comeback bid. Junior
Jessica Garreffa ended set two, as she pounded home a set from sophomore
Kacie Ros for the set-clinching kill.
Saint Elizabeth controlled a bulk of the third set, but the Devils used a 4-0 spurt in the middle of the frame to close the gap to 15-13. The Devils finally were able to level the stanza at 16 after an ace from sophomore
Kesha Patel. FDU took a brief one-point lead at 23-22 after a tandem block from
Ashley Dellolio and
Liz Moise, but the Eagles took the final three points to trim the set margin to 2-1.
The hosts never trailed in the fourth frame tallying 21 of the first 27 markers. Entering the fifth and final set, the Devils used two kills from Padron and two unforced errors to embark on a 5-0 rally and go-ahead 7-3. The Eagles responded with seven of their own before a Padron ace gave FDU a 12-11 lead. A Gareffa kill brought up match point for FDU, yet the Eagles stymied the rally and notched the last three points to complete the comeback.

- In her final game, Padron posted a double-double of 19 kills and 10 digs.
- Morse chipped in five aces to go along with a team-high 15 digs.
- Moise had three blocks, including two solo rejections.
