MADISON, N.J. (October 30, 2019) – The FDU men's soccer team was topped by Drew University 4-1 in the non-conference play Wednesday evening.
Both sides now sport identical 6-9-2 records after the decision tonight.
The Rangers peppered the FDU backline with shots before netting the opening tally in the 17th minute. FDU didn't attempt their first shot until the 31st minute but were awarded consecutive corners in the 31st and 32nd minutes. Junior goalkeeper
Parker Malman made a stop in the 41st minute, while classmate
Brandon McGregor had the final attempt of the period go high.
Malman kept the Devils in the game with a pair of stops in the 52nd minute before rookie
Oliver Trujillo fired a shot wide in the 59th minute. The Rangers padded their lead with goals in the 62nd and 71st minutes, but the hosts continued to apply pressure. Junior Caleb Ariyku had the best opportunity, ringing a shot off of the crossbar in the 73rd minute.
FDU spoiled the shutout bid in the 81st minute. After Drew was whistled for a foul, junior
Ricky La Stella sent in a free-kick into the box. Moving up from his center back position, sophomore
Jack Zaretsky was able to redirect the ball into the goal for his second marker of the season. Drew finished off the scoring with an 87th-minute tally to close out the 4-1 victory.
