Volleyball Bested by Misericordia in MAC Freedom Play

MADISON, N.J. (October 2, 2019) – The FDU volleyball was knocked off by Misericordia University 25-16, 25-20, 25-16 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play Wednesday evening.

FDU falls to 5-8, 0-3 in the conference while Misericordia improves to 14-9, 2-1 in the MAC Freedom.

The Cougars rolled off eight of the opening nine points of the first set but battled back to trim the deficit to three. During the Devils run of four straight points, rookie Sophia Miskulin recorded a solo block while junior Rebecca Morse served up an ace. As the Cougar lead grew to seven at 17-10, an unforced error and a service ace by sophomore Kacie Ros brought the score to 17-12.
Misericordia closed out set one with five of the final six markers to take a 1-0 lead.

The second stanza was close before the Cougars used five straight tallies to build a 10-6 advantage. The Devils rebounded, taking advantage of three consecutive unforced errors to level the period at 11. FDU got within a point on an attack error; however, the Cougars recorded five of the next six to take a five-point lead. After fending off two sets points, a kill from Fiona Pyfer gave Misericordia a two sets to none lead.

Misericordia put the Devils in a hole thanks to an opening 7-0 run in the third set. The Devils clawed back to within five at 13-8 thanks to a Ros service ace, but the Devils were unable to get any closer. An ace by Misericordia pushed everything to match point, but Ros and junior Liz Moise notched kills to keep the third set going. The rally was short-lived, as a kill from Faith Merritt ended the final frame.
