Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Knocked Off by Cairn, 2-0

LANGHORNE, Pa. (October 2, 2019) – The FDU men's soccer team had its four-match winning streak snapped by Cairn University during a 2-0 setback Wednesday.

FDU is now 5-3-1 on the season, as Cairn improves to 5-4-1.

Junior Ricky La Stella had the Devils first scoring opportunity, putting a shot towards goal in the 26th minute that was deflected out of bounds by the goalkeeper. FDU nearly got on the board in the 29th minute, but a Highlander defender cleared the ball off the line on a shot attempt by Brandon McGregor

Sophomore Tiernan Grey made consecutive saves in the 35th minute to keep the game deadlocked, and neither side was able to muster a shot on goal for the remainder of the period.

Cairn held a 9-3 edge in shots, while also gaining a 7-4 advantage in the corner kick department.

The hosts broke through just 43 seconds into the second stanza, with Josh Goodyear recording the goal. The Highlanders had an attempt to double the lead in the 55th minute, but this time it was a Devils defender who was able to clear one off the line to keep the score at 1-0.

The battle went on, as the FDU defense stymied a trio of corner kicks midway through the frame. FDU hunted for an equalizing tally but were unable to find it, as the hosts doubled the advantage in the 84th minute. This time, Brett Kikendall was the one who buried the shot, pushing the Cairn lead to 2-0. FDU was unable to find the goals they needed, and Cairn was able to claim the victory.
