CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (October 19, 2019) - The FDU Florham men's soccer team fell to DeSales in overtime on Saturday evening in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play by a score of 3-2.
FDU moves to 5-7-2 overall and 0-3-1 in MAC action. The Bulldogs improve to 5-9-1 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
The Devils recorded the first shot attempt of the game when graduate student Anthony Pares got off an attempt that landed wide of the goal. In the 19th minute, the FDU defensive unit recorded a blocked shot on the Bulldogs shot attempt. In the 27th minute, DeSales was first to strike, as they executed on their shot attempt, to take the 1-0 lead. Both teams remained scoreless as the game went into the halftime stoppage.
Coming out of the break, the Devils did not waste a lot of time to get their first score of the game. In the 56th minute, junior Brandon McGregor connected off of a pass from junior Ricky La Stella for the game-tying goal. Aiming to retake the lead, DeSales fired off a shot in the 61st minute, but they were denied as sophomore goalie Tiernan Grey saved the Bulldogs' attempt to score.
In the 71st minute, La Stella fired off a shot but was blocked by the DeSales defense. However, La Stella kept attacking as in the 73rd minute; he scored the go-ahead goal. In the 76th minute, La Stella got off another attempt, but the DeSales goalie saved it. DeSales would soon score again, as in the 80th minute, they tied up the score. Both teams would not score for the remainder of regulation, forcing overtime. In the overtime period, DeSales connected on their shot attempt, to secure the win.
