Men's Soccer Notches First Win in 2-1 Triumph

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (September 8, 2018) - The FDU-Florham men's soccer team earned their first win of the season 2-1, against Farmingdale State College Saturday evening.
 
Sophomore Justin Estremera and freshman Salvatore Vassallo each had a goal for the Devils in their come from behind victory. Sophomore Nick Halpin had on assist.
 
The Devils, who were playing without five starters, found themselves down early. The Rams notched the opening goal in the eighth minute, however Estremera answered back with a goal of his own 16 minutes later to tie the score.
 
In the 28th minute the Devils were awarded a penalty shot but Estremera's attempt went wide. After the penalty shot the Devils rifled off four more shots with none of them finding the back of the net. At half the Devils held an 8-4 advantage in shots and a slim 3-2 advantage in corners.
 
Farmingdale best opportunity to reclaim the lead came in the 53rd minute when Luis Vasquez's shot hit the post. Nine minutes later, the Devils were awarded their second penalty kick of the evening. Sophomore Rickey La Stella penalty shot was saved by the keeper but the Devils regained possession of the rebound and then found the back of the net 45 seconds later to take the lead. Vassallo's goal was the first of his collegiate career and proved to be enough for the Devils as they would hold on for the 2-1 victory.

Sophomore Parker Malman had four saves in net for the Devils in route to his first collegiate victory. Both teams finished with 13 shots but Farmingdale finished with a 5-4 advantage in corners.
 
The Devils will travel to Trenton, New Jersey to face The College of New Jersey Wednesday, September 12 at 7:30 p. m.
