EWING, N.J. (September 12, 2018) - The FDU-Florham men's soccer team fell to The College of New Jersey 2-0 in non-conference action Wednesday night.
The Devils drop to 1-4, while TCNJ improves to 6-0.
The hosts took the first four shots of the evening, but were unable to find the back of the net. Freshman
Cameron Paventi made his first career start, and came up with a save off of a header in the 13th minute. FDU had a chance to break the deadlock in the 19th minute, but sophomore
Ricky La Stella had his attempt snared by the Lions keeper.
Neither side was able to put a shot on target for most of the first half, but the Lions were able to break through in the 44th minute. With just under two minutes remaining in the stanza, TCNJ's Nick Sample took a shot from 20 yards out that beat Paventi to send the Lions into the half with the slight edge.
La Stella was again denied by Nolan Cloney 38 seconds into the second stanza, but Ryan Santos doubled the Lions edge four minutes later. Santos converted a Michael Maltese cross into the left corner of the net for his third tally of the season.
FDU pressed on looking for a tally, but two shots on goal were both stopped by Cloney. Paventi did his part to keep the contest close, stopping Sam Monaco's header off a Lions corner kick. In the end, the Devils were unable to find the back of the net and fell 2-0.
La Stella had four shots which tied the match-high, while Paventi made two saves in his collegiate debut.
The Devils begin a four-game home-stand Saturday, welcoming Mount St. Mary to campus for a 12 p.m. contest
