MADISON, N.J. (September 15, 2018) - The FDU-Florham men's soccer team fell 4-2 against Mount Saint Mary's College Saturday afternoon.
Despite early goals from freshman
Salvatore Vassallo and sophomore
Nick Halpin, the Devils were unable to hold off the second half offensive surge of the Knights.
The Devils first opportunity to score came in the 32
nd minute when sophomore
Justin Estremera received a perfect through ball but his shot was saved by the Knights goalkeeper. Three minutes later, Estremera had another opportunity to score but his shot deflected off of the keepers face for a Devils corner kick. On the ensuing corner, Vassallo received the pass from Estremera and found the back of the net with a header for his second goal of the season.
The offense continued to apply pressure and in the 41
st minute, Halpin gather the ball after a shot deflected of sophomore
Ricky La Stella and then Halpin's shot pinged off the corner for his first collegiate goal. The Devils went into half with a 9-5 shot advantage and a 4-0 corner advantage.
The Knights offense came alive in a five-minute span with two quick goals to tie the score. Connor Doyle beat the keeper with a header in the 57
th minute and scored again in the 62
nd minute. The Knights used this momentum to reclaim the lead in the 78
th minute and added an insurance goal in the 82
nd minute.
Freshman
Cameron Paventi played 65 minutes in goal and recorded four saves, while sophomore
Parker Malman stopped one shot in 25 minutes of action.
The Devils will host Centenary University Wednesday, September 19 at 7 p. m.
