Mount St. Mary Tops Men's Soccer, 4-2

MADISON, N.J. (September 15, 2018) - The FDU-Florham men's soccer team fell 4-2 against Mount Saint Mary's College Saturday afternoon.

Despite early goals from freshman Salvatore Vassallo and sophomore Nick Halpin, the Devils were unable to hold off the second half offensive surge of the Knights.

The Devils first opportunity to score came in the 32nd minute when sophomore Justin Estremera received a perfect through ball but his shot was saved by the Knights goalkeeper. Three minutes later, Estremera had another opportunity to score but his shot deflected off of the keepers face for a Devils corner kick. On the ensuing corner, Vassallo received the pass from Estremera and found the back of the net with a header for his second goal of the season.

The offense continued to apply pressure and in the 41st minute, Halpin gather the ball after a shot deflected of sophomore Ricky La Stella and then Halpin's shot pinged off the corner for his first collegiate goal. The Devils went into half with a 9-5 shot advantage and a 4-0 corner advantage.

The Knights offense came alive in a five-minute span with two quick goals to tie the score. Connor Doyle beat the keeper with a header in the 57th minute and scored again in the 62nd minute. The Knights used this momentum to reclaim the lead in the 78th minute and added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute.

Freshman Cameron Paventi played 65 minutes in goal and recorded four saves, while sophomore Parker Malman stopped one shot in 25 minutes of action.
