MADISON, N.J. (September 4, 2018) - The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham volleyball team earned 3-0 victory in their home opener versus Mount Saint Mary (N.Y) College, 25-11, 25-18, 25-18 Tuesday night.
The Devils improve to 2-3 in the season while Mount St. Mary drops to 0-4 on the year.
Senior
Lauren Harris had a match high 15 kills and freshman
Kacie Ros had 33 assists and seven digs. Senior
Katie Quinlan added 12 kills and a solo block.
The Devils and Knights went back and forth in the first set until the Devils went on an 11-1 run to push the score to 16-6. Harris fueled this run with five kills, and the team won the first set off a kill from Quinlan. The Devils continued playing well and started the second set on a 7-0 run and never trailed in the set winning 25-18. Harris notched 10 kills in the first two stanzas to pace the Devils.
The third set contained some drama, when the Knights went on a 5-0 run to cut the Devil lead to one before FDU used a timeout. The Knights took advantage of an attack error to tie the score at 16, but it would be as close they would come to grabbing a lead. The teams went back and forth until senior
Marissa Lehnert's kill gave the Devils the momentum to finish the third set on a 7-0 run, capped off by a kill by junior
Nathalia Padron.
Up next for the Devils, a tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College in which they will have four matches over the course of Friday and Saturday. Up first, FDU will square off with Neumann and the host Mules beginning at 5 p.m.
