ALLENTOWN, Pa. (September 7, 2018) - The FDU-Florham volleyball team dropped matches to Muhlenberg and Neumann Friday evening on day one of the Buttermaker Classic hosted by Muhlenberg.
The Devils fell to 2-4 on the season, and will look for victories tomorrow during day two of the tournament. FDU will face Stockton and Stevenson during the day.
MUHLENBERG 3, FDU-FLORHAM 0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-15)
The Devils hit just .083 during the first match of the day, while the hosts swung at a .218 clip. The Mules raced out to a 10-5 lead before extending the edge to 18-9 during the opening stanza. FDU pulled to within 21-16 after a pair of Mules unforced errors, but could not get any closer.
FDU forced Muhlenberg into a timeout during the second set after a kill by senior
Katie Quinlan put the Devils ahead 12-9. An unforced attack error stretched the lead to 16-12, but the Mules were able to reel off seven straight to grab a 19-16 edge. The Devils took a timeout, which seemed to work as
Marissa Lehnert and
Kacie Ros notched back-to-back kills to get within one. The hosts tallied six of the final seven markers to take a 2-0 lead on the day.
Set three was all Muhlenberg, as they quickly scored 13 of the first 18 points. FDU closed to within seven on an attack error, but four straight tallies by Muhlenberg brought up match point. Kills from junior
Nathalia Padron and senior
Lauren Harris extended the match, but a Mules kill thrashed the Devils comeback hopes.
Quinlan tallied 10 kills, as Harris had a season-best 18 digs. Padron chipped in 14 digs, while sophomore
Jessica Garreffa totaled 12 digs.
NEUMANN 3, FDU-FLORHAM 1
Scores and stats will be provided once they are available.
