WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (September 29, 2018) - The FDU-Florham men's soccer team was bested by King's 4-0 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play Saturday afternoon.
The Devils fall to 3-7, 0-1 in the MAC Freedom, while King's moves to 6-3, 1-0 in the conference.
The Monarchs stifled the Devils offense in the first half, not allowing a shot while attempting nine of their own. Freshman
Tiernan Grey made two saves midway through the first stanza to keep the score locked at zero all. King's would get on the board with two goals within a 1:46 span. Liam McLoughlin knocked in a headed pass off a corner for the first strike, and August Axtman converted a penalty kick, sending King's into halftime with a lead.
Just 5:21 into the second stanza, McLoughlin netted his second tally of afternoon. Sam Pipicelli hit crossbar, but McLoughlin was there for the rebound. FDU had consecutive corner kicks in the 60th minute, but could not score. Sophomore
Caleb Aryiku had the Devils first shot in the 64th minute, but his attempt was stopped by King's keeper Owen Geedey.
Freshman
Vincenzo Russo nearly put the Devils on the scoreboard in the 76th minute, but his header just hit the post and rolled wide. With just under 8:30 left, King's capped off the scoring as Aidan DeCamillo moved in on a breakaway and tallied his third goal of the year. The hosts nearly added a fifth, but FDU was able to clear the ball off the goal-line before it crossed.
Grey made five saves in the setback.
FDU returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to take on in-state rival Montclair State at 6 p.m.
