Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Estermera Powers Men's Soccer Past CCNY, 7-1

MADISON, N.J. (September 26, 2018) - Sophomore Justin Estremera tallied two goals and three assists as the FDU-Florham men's soccer team routed The City College of New York 7-1 Wednesday afternoon.

The Devils improved to 3-6 on the season, while CCNY dropped to 0-6-1.

Estremera tied the school record with three assists, and was one point away from equaling the school-record of eight points in a game.

FDU nearly broke through for the opening goal in the third minute, as sophomore Ricky La Stella moved in seemingly all alone. La Stella took a shot that was cleared off the line by a sliding Beaver defender. Freshman goalkeeper Tiernan Grey kept the score deadlocked as he made a save in the 17th minute.

The Devils used a lot of the pressure in the opening 45 minutes, and finally took the lead in the 32nd minute. Estremera linked up with classmate Brandon McGregor to grab a 1-0 lead. Just eight minutes later, the roles were reversed, as McGregor fed Estremera for a goal.

The hosts went into the halftime break with a comfortable 2-0 lead, collecting an 11-7 edge in shots.

La Stella had another chance for a goal early in the second stanza, but his shot was saved by Bryant Ibarra. FDU added to their lead as McGregor's second of the afternoon came off a feed from freshman Salvatore Vassallo. La Stella got his goal in the 63rd minute, finishing a pass by Estremera.

Estremera added his second tally of the game four minutes later, as senior Romeo Lopez served in a perfect ball that just needed to be tapped in. After Lopez scored in the 73rd minute, CCNY broke the shutout with an 82nd minute goal. Freshman Stefan Zawojski closed out the scoring with 4:28 left, scoring his first collegiate goal.

The Devils ended the game with 32 shots, led by six from McGregor.

FDU opens Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play on Saturday, taking on King's in Wilkes Barre, Pa. at 1 p.m.
