Men's Soccer Falls in Double Overtime to Immaculata, 3-2

MADISON, N.J. (September 22, 2018) - Despite erasing a two-goal second half deficit, the FDU-Florham men's soccer team fell to Immaculata 3-2 in double overtime Saturday evening.

The Devils drop to 2-6, while Immaculata moves to 4-3-1 with the triumph.

Neither side was able to take a stronghold on the first half, combining for just five shots over the opening 13 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper Tiernan Grey was tested in the 36th minute, making two saves to keep the deadlocked at zero. The Mighty Macs broke through in the 38th minute with the games first tally. Off a Devils foul, Eric Case took a free kick and beat Grey for the opening goal.

FDU held a slim 8-7 lead in shots, and a 3-2 edge in corner kick opportunities during the first 45 minutes.

Imnaculata doubled their lead just 3:29 into the second half, as Ricky Molz headed in a Nick Boule corner kick. The two-goal lead did not last long. At 51:10, Romeo Lopez knocked in a pass from sophomore Justin Estremera to cut the lead in half. Just 43 seconds later, sophomore Caleb Aryiku sent in a long pass that classmate Brandon McGregor rifled in to even things up.

Freshman Salvatore Vassallo had a pair of chances as regulation wound down, but two attempts were thwarted by Mighty Macs goalkeeper Mikey Kalpokas. The second Vassallo attempt came with just 59 seconds remaining, and the game went into extra sessions.

Sophomore Nick Halpin had the best chance for FDU in the 94th minute, as his bending shot just was outside the far post. Grey came up with a punch save over the bar three minutes later to extend the game. With the score still tied at two after the first overtime, Immaculata needed just 56 seconds in the second stanza to end the contest 3-2.

Sophomore Ricky La Stella and Estremera led the way with three shots each, as Grey made seven saves.

FDU continues its home stand with a 4 p.m. game Wednesday against the City College of New York.
