Rubin Breaks Career Wins Record in 2-0 win over Drew

MADISON, N.J. (September 19, 2018) - Senior Samantha Rubin of the FDU-Florham field hockey team became the program leader in victories in the Devils 2-0 win over Drew Wednesday afternoon.

Rubin tallied her 36th career win, moving past Tess Loughran who had 35 wins from 2010-13. This season, Rubin and the Devils are 7-1, while Drew dropped to 1-6 on the season.

Just five minutes into the game, the Devils captialized on their first shot on goal. Off a penalty corner, junior Maggie Sohns inserted the ball into senior Brooke Sherwin. Sherwin took a rip and blasted a shot that classmate Kelly O'Neill deflected for her fifth tally of the season.

FDU continued to pressure the Rangers, but had a penalty stroke stopped in the 13th minute. With time winding down in the stanza, senior Chrissy Pennery and junior Ariana Wexler each had shots stopped by the Drew goalkeeper. The Devils held a dominant 16-0 edge in shots during the first half, while also drawing 11 penalty corners.

Drew had the first shot of the second half but it was blocked off a corner attempt. Much like the first half, FDU netted a goal on their first shot on goal of the period. Sohns this time found Sherwin off a corner try, and the senior found the back of the net with the shot. The Rangers had just three shots in the second half, but none were on goal.

Sherwin equaled the school-record with 14 shots while adding a goal and an assist, while O'Neill took two shots.

FDU returns home and begins conference play Friday evening when they welcome DeSales University to Robert T. Shields Field for a 7 p.m. contest.
