Volleyball Moves to 2-0 in MAC Freedom with Four Set Win Over Wilkes

MADISON, N.J. (September 18, 2018) - Despite dropping the first set, the Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham volleyball team defeated Wilkes University 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-11, 26-24), in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom match-up Tuesday night.

The Devils improve to 2-0 in the MAC Freedom, as Wilkes falls to 0-2 in conference play.

Senior Lauren Harris had a team high 19 kills and freshman Kacie Ros had a game high 44 assists. Senior Katie Quinlan added a season-high 17 kills in victory.

Both teams went back and forth during the first set with neither team leading by more than three points. With the scored tied at 19, Wilkes went on a short 3-0 run forcing FDU to take a timeout. The Devils were unable to recover from the run losing the set 25-22. The team continued to battle in the second set but the Devils took advantage of Wilkes' six service errors and 10 attack errors to win the set 25-20.

The Devils started the third set on a 4-0 run fueled by two aces by junior Nathalia Padron. Wilkes responded later, on with a three-point run of their own but FDU responded with a massive 11-0 run to make the score 17-5. The Devils closed out the third set with consecutive kills by freshman Gabriella Lopez.

The fourth set resembled the first two sets with both clubs going back and forth. After a FDU-Florham ball-handling error, coach Jason Madsen called a timeout with his team down 19-18. Kills by Padron and Harris forced Wilkes to call a timeout as the Devils jumped 20-19. Wilkes had an opportunity to win the fourth set with the score 24-22 in their favor, but the Devils closed out the match with a 4-0 run.

Up next for the Devils, the Stockton Osprey Classic in Pomona, New Jersey where they will have four matches in two days, this Friday and Saturday.
