MADISON, N.J. (April 7, 2018) - The FDU women's tennis team was narrowly edged by SUNY-Geneseo 5-4 Saturday afternoon.
The Devils gave everything they had in their matchup, as the Knights have advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past six seasons. Freshman
Nicole DelRosso and sophomore
Christine Kenny started things off right, notching a point with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
That would be the only doubles point FDU earned, as Geneseo earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. FDU hung around in both matches, falling 8-5 and 8-6. The Devils were knocked off in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, falling into a hole.
The team rebounded with three wins at the bottom of the lineup.
Serina Grande dropped the first set at No. 4 singles before rallying to take the next two sets. Freshman
Kira Bradley and sophomore
Mia Capozzoli dominated at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively, as Bradley didn't drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win.
The match came down to No. 1 singles as DelRosso and Vanessa Lam-Tran battled for a while. DelRosso won the first set 7-5, but dropped the next two 6-4, 10-4.
"Nothing negative to say about today's performance," said Head Coach Tom Battaglia. "To play a team as good as Geneseo and come up short 5-4 is a win in my book. The women played their hearts out. I'm beyond proud of today's effort and I'm even more excited for next week."
