WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (April 5, 2018) - Senior
Serina Grande became the first women's tennis player to eclipse 50 career wins as the FDU women's team topped King's 8-1.
The Devils improve to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom. King's drops to 1-8, and 0-1 in the conference.
"The team went out there and played aggressive from the first point. We wanted to set the pace early because of the weather conditions," said Head Coach Tom Bataglia. "We didn't want to get into a defensive battle because the wind would carry the ball all over the court. The women hit great approach shots when given the opportunity and cleaned up points at the net. Great effort from them and i hope it carries over to Geneseo in Saturday."
Grande was a double winner Thursday, first teaming with freshman
Kira Bradley for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. The senior also was a straight set winner at No. 4 singles, earning a 6-2, 6-2 decision. Bradley also won both of her matches, cruising to a 6-4, 6-0 win.
Freshman
Nicole DelRosso and sophomore
Christine Kenny picked up a crucial 8-5 win at No. 1 singles, before Kenny notched a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. The Devils completed the doubles sweep as senior
Amelia Vetto and freshman
Brooke Dorsey won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Junior
Allyson Wolf and sophomore
Mia Capozzoli each earned singles wins, as Wolf won at No. 3 6-3. 6-2. Capozzoli went to a third set, winning No. 6 match 6-0, 3-6, 6-1.
The Devils return home on Saturday, hosting SUNY-Geneseo at 1 p.m.
