BRONX & FLUSHING, N.Y. (April 24, 2018) - The FDU men's tennis team topped Lehman 8-1 over notching a 9-0 win over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn Tuesday.
The wins in two of New York's five boroughs improved FDU to 15-3 on the season, with a crucial Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom matchup looming against Wilkes this Saturday. The 15 wins tied the school-record for victories in a season, equaling the mark set in 2006.
MATCH 1: FDU-Florham 8, Lehman 1
Despite dropping a hard-fought 9-7 setback at No. 1 doubles, the Devils regrouped and took the final two. Senior
Chris Ly and sophomore
Chris Fiorenza gutted out an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles while freshman
Tyler Schacher and sophomore
Brendon Urbano won 8-4.
Fiorenza and Schacher dominated at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, with each winning 8-0. Senior
Max Moscowitz cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 1 singles while Ly doubled up his opponent 8-4. Sophomore
Kevin Weller and Urbano held on at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, winning 8-6 and 9-7 respectively.
MATCH 2: FDU-Florham 9, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 0
The Devils swept through doubles action, dropping only four games. Ly and Fiorenza blanked their opponent 8-0 at No. 2 doubles while Moscowitz and Weller notched an 8-1 win. Freshman
Christopher McArthur teamed with Urbano to win 8-3, heading into singles action with a 3-0 lead.
For the second straight match, Fiorenza and Schacher notched shutouts at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Both won 6-0, 6-0 as Weller was a straight set winner 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. McArthur picked up an easy 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the bottom of the lineup, while Ly won handily 6-1, 6-0.
