Eastern Tops Men's Lacrosse in MAC Freedom Action

ST. DAVIDS, PA. (April 24, 2018) - The FDU men's lacrosse team was topped by Eastern 15-5 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action Tuesday.

FDU dropped to 5-8 and 3-3 in conference while Eastern improved to 6-0 in the MAC Freedom and 9-6 overall.

Senior David Stewart opened the scoring for FDU, netting his 22nd goal of the season a mere 1:33 into the game. Defending MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week Adam Reifer made three early saves in the first quarter, before the hosts evened the score with 1:49 left in the period.

The Eagles grabbed their first lead of the game 27 ticks into the second, but the Devils found the equalizer nearly four minutes later. After Eastern took a pair of penalties, junior Will Charbonneau found an open Stewart, who tallied a man-up goal.

Eastern would score the next two goals before the Devils man-up converted another opportunity. With just over 30 seconds left in the man advantage, freshman Drew Bukowiec hit John Belager with a feed, and Belanger scored his 24th of year. The goal sent the Devils into the half trailing by just a goal.

Things didn't start well in the second half for FDU, as Eastern won the face-off and went the distance for a goal 15 seconds in. That goal allowed the Eagles to go on a 4-0 spurt, stretching the lead to 9-3. The Devils snapped the run with 2;18 left in the third, this time with Bukowiec converting a Will Kenny feed.

The teams traded goals opening the fourth stanza, but Eastern closed the game off with five straight markers, including the final one with 2:08 left.

Junior Michael Contreras led the midfield unit with four groundballs and a caused turnover. Stewart, Charbonneau and Bukowiec each had two points, while Reifer made 11 saves in just over 55 minutes of action.

The Devils end the regular season with a Saturday afternoon road game against Misericordia at 1 p.m.
