Men's Lacrosse Grinds Out Conference Win on Senior Day

MADISON, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's lacrosse team fought their way to an 8-6 win over Delaware Valley in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom matchup on Senior Day at Robert T. Shields Field Saturday afternoon.

The Devils honored their six seniors of Will Kenny, David Stewart, Andrew Dakan, Dan Sagl, Conner Evans, and JT Bretschneider.

The Devils improve to 5-7 on the season and 3-2 in the conference as the Aggies drop to 3-11 overall and 1-4 in the MAC Freedom.

Junior Will Charbonneau was the spark the Devils needed, scoring a hat trick in the triumph while sophomore John Belanger added two goals and an assist.

The Aggies used a late first quarter goal, followed by an early second quarter tally to take a 2-0 lead over the Devils.

But FDU went on a 3-0 run to halt the opponent as Belanger kick-started the attack when he converted on a feed from senior David Stewart. Less than two minutes later, Charbonneau fired in the equalizer on an assist from freshman Tyler Garcia.

The Devils grabbed the lead for the first time in the contest with less than five minutes remaining in the half when freshman Drew Bukowiec netted a goal off a helper from sophomore John Guido.

Delaware Valley found a way to add two more before the half ended as FDU found itself down by one at the break, 4-3.

FDU won the third and fourth quarter, though, as Charbonneau capitalized on a man-up opportunity and Stewart tied things at 5-5 to end the third off a Guido assist.

The Devils grabbed the lead for the final time three minutes into the final quarter as Guido pushed through the defense to score one of his own on a clever Bukowiec feed.

FDU fought for the win, scoring their next two goals under shot clock pressure as Charbonneau and Belanger sealed the deal.

Defensively, the Devils relied heavily on sophomore goalie Adam Reifer, who made 16 saves in the victory while classmate Mike Gartner stepped up in front of him with three caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Up next, the Devils hit the road to face Eastern University, on Tuesday, April 24 at 4 p.m. in St. Davids, Pa. in MAC Freedom play.
