Men's Lacrosse Stifles DeSales, 6-4

MADISON, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's lacrosse team defeated DeSales University, 6-4, in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom matchup on Wednesday night at Robert T. Shields Field.

The Devils improve to 4-7 on the season and even out to 2-2 in the conference as the Bulldogs drop to 3-8 and 0-4 in the MAC Freedom.

In goal, sophomore Adam Reifer was outstanding all game long, making 22 saves, including seven saves in the last five minutes of the contest.

Sophomore John Belanger led the Devils' offensive campaign with two goals and one assist and three ground balls. Senior Will Kenny played a key role in FDU's victory, winning 11 of 13 faceoffs, while contributing a goal fired in right off a faceoff win early in the second quarter to put the Devils up, 3-1.

On the defensive end, sophomore Mike Gartner was a dominant force, causing five turnovers and picked up four groundballs while senior Dan Sagl caused three turnovers.

The first quarter was evenly matched until the 12th minute when Belanger fired in the first goal of the game. DeSales answered back quickly though, when Joe Neggia tied things up just over a minute later.

FDU came out of the gate strong in the second quarter, scoring three-straight goals when senior David Stewart netted one off a John Guido assist. Seven seconds later, Kenny added another and Belanger contributed one more with just under six minutes remaining in the half.

The Bulldogs found a way to score twice more before the end of the half to come within one.

FDU used the third quarter to pull away when sophomore Pat Stewart capitalized on a man-up opportunity and freshman Tyler Garcia scored his first collegiate goal to give the Devils a 6-3 lead.

DeSales scored once more and the teams played to a scoreless draw in the fourth quarter as Reifer put up a 10-save performance in the final quarter to seal deal.

Up next, FDU faces Delaware Valley University in conference play on Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m. at Robert T. Shields Field.
