ST DAVIDS & MEDIA, Pa. (April 14, 2018) - The FDU women's tennis team picked up wins over Eastern and Penn State Brandywine Saturday afternoon.
The victories moved the Devils to 8-3, including a perfect 3-0 mark in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom. They topped Eastern 6-3 and Penn State Brandywine 9-0.
The match against Penn State-Brandywine was not close, as seven of the nine matches ended by an 8-0 score. The other two (No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles) didn't happen, allowing FDU to pick up a pair of forfeit wins.
The contest against Eastern was a battle. FDU pulled in front 2-1 after the trio of doubles matches. The No. 1 team of
Nicole DelRosso and
Christine Kenny fell in a tough 8-6 match, but the next two earned wins.
Senior
Amelia Vetto and junior
Allyson Wolf picked up an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles before the tandem of senior
Serina Grande and freshman
Kira Bradley earned an identical 8-3 triumph, giving the Devils the lead heading into singles play.
Eastern jumped ahead 3-2 briefly, picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. The Devils controlled the rest of the matchup sweeping No. 3-6 singles. Wolf won at No. 3 6-3, 6-1 before Grande cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Bradley had issues at No. 5 singles and has settled in nicely at the bottom of the lineup, winning 6-0, 6-1. Since moving to the five hole, Bradley has racked up seven straight singles victories, including six at No. 5.
Mia Capozzoli gutted out a 6-3, 6-4 win to close out the win.
