MADISON, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's lacrosse team dropped a tough 13-9 loss to Manhattanville in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play on Wednesday night at Robert T. Shields Field.
The Devils move to 3-6 on the season and 1-1 in the MAC Freedom as the Valiants improve to 6-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Sophomore
John Belanger fired in the first goal of the game just 43 seconds into play. The Valiants answered back but the Devils scored three-straight, including two from senior
David Stewart and one from sophomore
Will Charbonneau off a Stewart feed, to take a 4-1 lead early in the first quarter.
FDU struggled in the second quarter however, as Manhattanville poured on four goals to the Devils' one, and the hosts left half time down, 7-6.
The Valiants scored first in the second stanza but freshman
Drew Bukowiec answered back with unassisted tally. It was to no avail, however, as Manhattanville scored the next three-straight goals to ultimately earn the victory.
Stewart and Charbonneau led the offensive effort with three goals each as senior
Will Kenny picked up 10 ground balls off the faceoff and sophomore
John Belanger recorded four ground balls.
Senior
Dan Sagl was a defensive stalwart with five caused turnovers and sophomore goalie
Adam Reifer made 15 saves in the defeat.
Up next, the Devils hit the road to face King's College (Pa.) on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
