Men's Lacrosse Earns First Win with 15-11 Triumph Over Bard

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (March 6, 2018) - The FDU men's lacrosse team picked up a 15-11 win over Bard College Tuesday night.

Both teams are now 1-1 with the result this evening.

Depsite falling behind early, the Devils rebounded with the next six tallies, leading 6-1 after the first quarter. Sophomore Pat Stewart and freshman Drew Bukowiec scored seven seconds apart midway through the frame to put the Devils up for good. Junior
Michael Warg and Bukowiec capped first quarter scoring with tallies 43 seconds apart late in the period.

After Bard closed to within 7-3, sophomore John Belanger and Warg netted markers to stop the run. With 1:12 left in the period, senior David Stewart converted a Bukowiec feed for a man-up goal, giving FDU the 10-3 halftime lead. FDU controlled play with 24 shots and 10 face-off wins in the half.

Will Charbonneau opened the third quarter with a goal 1:34 into the period, but the Raptors tallied the next three. Bukowiec scored to stop the rally, and Stewart notched his second man-up goal of the night with 1:12 remaining as the Devils held a 13-7 edge entering the fourth.

Bukowiec scored his fourth of the game to re-establish the FDU six goal margin, but Bard scored the next four goals to climb to within three with 6:53 left. Goalkeeper Adam Reifer made two big saves keeping the lead at three, and Belanger closed the game with his second of the night with four minutes and change left. Bard only had one shot on cage after the Belanger tally, and Devils came away with the win.

Charbonneau tallied three goals, as Bukowiec potted four goals and three assists. Sophomore John Guido handed out a career-best five assists while Reifer made six saves in net.

The Devils will be back in action on Tuesday, heading to New York to battle Oneonta at 4 p.m.
