ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's lacrosse team earned its second win of the season behind a hat-trick from junior
Michael Warg in a 9-8 victory over SUNY Oneonta Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore goalie
Adam Reifer made 12 saves in the win as the Devils move to 2-1 on the season and the Red Dragons drop to 2-2.
Both squads traded goals throughout the entirety of the first half, leaving the break at 5-5.
It was Warg who struck first with a tally just under two minutes into play. Senior
Will Kenny followed with one of his own with 4:47 left in the first quarter to put things at 2-1.
The Red Dragons took a 3-2 lead over FDU halfway through the second quarter but two goals from sophomore
John Belanger and one from freshman
Drew Bukowiec left things even at five each going into the second stanza.
FDU-Florham grabbed the momentum coming into third quarter, scoring four-straight unanswered goals at the hands of Warg, Bukowiec and senior
David Stewart, who contributed three assists in the triumph.
Still, despite the 9-5 lead, the Red Dragons fought back and managed to sneak in three more goals in the fourth quarter to threaten the Devils' lead.
Ultimately, FDU was able to hold on as time expired to earn the victory.
Senior midfielder
Dan Sagl had three caused turnovers and Kenny led the Devils with four groundballs.
Up next, men's lacrosse will kick-off a six-game home stand against Muhlenberg College on Wednesday, March 21 at 7 p.m. at Robert T. Shields Field in Madison, N.J.
