UNION, N.J. (February 28, 2018) - The FDU men's lacrosse team was topped by Kean 11-6 Wednesday evening.
The game was the season-opener for both squads.
The Cougars began the game with three straight tallies, before junior
Michael Warg put FDU on the board. Junior
Will Charbonneau picked up a loose ball, and found Warg who did the rest. The next tallies were scored by Kean, opening up an 8-1 lead.
Warg ended the run with a man-up tally with 1:21 left in the first half to het within six, trailing 8-2 heading into the break. Senior
Conner Evans made seven stops in the first 30 minutes, as the Devils held a slight 15-14 edge in ground balls in the half.
Kean notched the opening two goals of the third quarter, before senior
Will Kenny rifled a shot past the Cougar goalkeeper. FDU would score four the games final five goals, with Warg completing the hat trick. The first half deficit proved to be too much to overcome, however as the team could get no closer than five.
Kenny went 10-of-20 in the "X" while scooping up five ground balls. Senior
David Stewart registered a pair of helpers on the evening, while classmate J.T. Bretschneider forced two turnovers to go along with four ground balls.
Adam Reifer played the final 30 minutes, making eight saves while allowing just three goals.
FDU is back in action next Wednesday, taking on Bard College at 7 p.m.
